Let us pray that trance will never make a comeback. There was a time and a place for trance and that was the 90's...lets leave it there.

I agree with trance, definitely been seeing a mixset trend towards trance again lately. However, tech, prog, and electro house are still going strong. I think the next wave will be a mix of electro and breaks, as people still want to hear that dirty sound but are getting tired of hearing the same old beat over and over. I also have been noticing a large trend towards lounge sounds again, as a throwback. I think lounge clubs are making a comeback with a modern, exclusive atmosphere. Don't think synthpop or minimal will get big anytime soon because they don't have that catchy club vibe that people want to hear.

All music is timeless. Trance has the pleasure of not only being timeless, but timeless in the, "Oh shit... did I really listen to trance all the time?!" way.

Seriously though, what is "electro punk?" Wikipedia doesn't even list it as a genre. It is some sort of cross between electro sounds and punk music? That kind of sounds like electroclash to me, and I am not sure that will be hot anytime soon.

well, electro punk would be nu-rave I suppose? I dunno, I'm playing it safe and betting my money on the pop.

But then on the other hand, my opinion is that the market for music is ever expanding and that in the future we will see large scenes for most genres and wont have to 'chose' as much

Trance is not limited to the 90's in any way, that is an erroneous comment. Trance is actually in the process of being reborn, it has enough diversity in it and it is beginning to shine through other genres. It is the classic dance music descendant from Disco of the 70 and 80's. I think it will be reborn in the next few years or decade. Electro-Punk also has a big future (The Young Punx are an example of that in the UK). I think that, too, will be a popular sound in the next decade.

JackTheDJ actually has some interesting projects, would I be wrong in grouping them as synthpop? Very interesting idea or taking poppy vocals, 90's basslines, and "cheesy" synths, with a 00's compression and mix, and making a whole new sound. I think that may be pretty interesting, if you like throwbacks, that is.

I would say its synth-pop in as much as its synths with yeah pop vocals etc. I don't thinks its wrong. To me pop isn't something to hate its a great thing, its melody, pop can still be orginal. In lots of dance music, the synth choice or style of beat seems to define the genre. In my opinion trance seems limited to set rules. Other forms allows for creatvity, trance bores me with its form. ElectoHouse/Breaks/Synthpop can all be creative and all held down by some rules theres also less boundaries.

Any chance of German Polka coming back this year? It's the original dance music, plus it's closely related to beer, which is always awesome.

Yes i believe that too, since its easier and easier to satisfie peoples music perception, there will be no need for complex sounds and thats what trance is(not a euro nor other comercial trance variations),so basicly yes Electro.

You can make electro very complex, there is a great versatility in terms of beat structure basslines and synth sounds. You don't have to stick to the same mold every time, like trance, for example.

Honestly, I hope it will be a completely unexpected genre. Not the same played out house and trance club-friendly shit. Though I don't mind some of it, the electronic music scene grows stagnant with the same types of music, especially when artists change up their style to get their songs played in clubs.

Watch the next big music wave be something completely unexpected, like bluegrass or something...it could happen.

Agree, compare trance these days to trance from 5 years ago, there is a total difference, synth's are used in new ways changing the style of trance, maybe the name has stayed the same but the genre has changed slightly, the speed and the drive in this genre is still the same, I FINALLY start to see less house and electro on radio's and events, got kinda tired of the slow tunes and it didn't sound like there was put a lot of effort in those tunes, trance will come back, and it will come back good..

Hey guys!
I hope that trance will be the next big wave and will have a comeback! I do not really understand why people claim not to like trance at all. I mean, trance music is more than just the hardtrance style of the 90s! There are dozends of sub-genres, and each with his own character. Some style I would even have problems to say if it is progressive house or progressive trance. However, I am sure trance will have a rebirth as people are getting more and more tired of monotone minimal stuff!

By the way, check out my next release "Space Trip" at http://www.myspace.com/EarthShyT . There are 6 different Mixes in 6 different trance styles! ;)
